Nate Berkowitz joins Root as New Executive Director

Dear Friends,

I am pleased to share that Nate Berkowitz has been appointed by Root’s Board of Directors as Executive Director and has joined the team this June. Faith Emerson, who has served ably as interim Executive Director during our search and hiring process, will return full-time to leadership of Root’s critical development effort when Nate takes office.

You may know Nate from his service as a Root board member, and since January, as our Board Treasurer. Nate lives in Manchester with his wife and two daughters. He attended Skidmore College as an undergraduate and holds a Masters of Management in Hospitality from Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration. Nate’s career spans two decades in the hospitality industry as an entrepreneur, consultant, and finance and operations professional, during which time he worked everywhere from the front line to the corporate boardroom. The unique combination of in-depth knowledge of and strong commitment to Root’s mission, along with deep experience and insight into for-profit food service operations and management, positions Nate to be an effective leader of the organization from the very start of his tenure. With Nate working alongside the strong leadership team currently in place at Root, the Board is excited about the organization's path forward.

The search for the new ED was extensive, conducted by the Board’s Search Committee under the leadership of Board member Anne Barker. Working with NRG Consultants, an executive recruiting firm, the Committee received and reviewed over 100 individual applications from a diverse group of candidates during the past three months.
