Fernando - Line cook, High School Graduate

Fernando, a September 2021 graduate of Root, did his externship at Ledger Restaurant in Salem in August and was immediately offered a job as a line cook. Fernando says he was fascinated by the Ledger kitchen team's attention to flavor and the care put into every dish, and he immediately knew he wanted to work there. Fernando went on to work at Ledger for two years while balancing finishing high school at Lynn Tech. His favorite part of the job was the culture and vibe of the kitchen crew, and he values their support and mentorship. He says he learned a lot in his two years and is eager to move on to a new style kitchen and restaurant to continue learning. He will be joining the team at Sally’s Apizza in Woburn in early 2024.

Fernando says Root taught him a lot in a short time - knife skills, cooking techniques, "kitchen vocab," and communication skills, all of which were a huge help going into his first job.
