Jireh - Conservation Law Foundation Development Staff, Outside Mind founder

Jireh is a January 2022 Root Graduate who chose to follow a non-culinary path after graduation.

Jireh, a native of Uganda, attended college in Kenya before moving to the United States with her family in early 2020, but she struggled to find employment and support during the pandemic. She credits Root's workforce readiness workshops with helping her put together her resume and build upon it and says the mock interview preparation and practice gave her confidence in answering interview questions effectively. She also learned how to research and learn more about different job opportunities. At the end of Root's training program, she decided she wanted to pursue working in non-profit organizations where she could help others.

Despite deciding not to pursue a culinary career, Jireh likes to cook for herself and says her time in the Root kitchen taught her skills and exposed her to many new cuisines and cultures. Jireh regularly returns to Root to speak with current trainees and share her experience.

Jireh was inspired to start her own non-profit focused on mental health and well-being, leveraging the power of nature and outdoor spaces for healing for ALL people and in the summer of 2022, she launched Outside Mind. We are inspired by her drive and commitment and were honored to support her by sponsoring her first friend-raising dinner event at Root this fall.
