Cody - Root Community Kitchen Team Member

Cody graduated from Root's Culinary Training Program in 2020 and is currently a member of Root's Community Kitchen Team, the powerhouse behind Root's retail catering and community meal initiatives, fulfilling daily school lunch orders, assisting with catering events, and preparing over 700 community meals each week and for individuals across the North Shore!

Despite the challenges of the pandemic, Cody secured a summer job with the Salem public schools kitchen team, and when that wrapped up, he applied for a position on Root's Community Kitchen Team. Cody says his favorite part about being on the CK team is helping the community and that, unlike most restaurant jobs, his work is also helping feed those in need in Salem and beyond. He also likes being back in the Root kitchen and continuing to expand his skills and experience.

“I have a lot more confidence in myself in the kitchen and in my personal life.  I have confidence in my kitchen skills and can be relied on to get what is asked of me.  Root has given me pride in my work.  My favorite thing to do in the kitchen is dicing and chopping,  I am good at it and like the precision and uniformity. I enjoy being part of the events off-site like the Meet and Eats.  It allows me to see the people appreciating the food we prepared.  It allows me to see us actually “feeding Community” for real.  I like knowing that my work is helping others.”

Cody enjoys cooking at home, too, and his favorite dish to make is stir-fry!
