Homemade whole wheat pita bread with Artisan Baker Jackie King
Thursday, January 15th, 4:00 to 7:00 PM.
Grab your apron and join artisan baker Jackie King of beloved Salem bakery A&J King to learn how to make their delicious whole-wheat pita bread. In addition to hands-on active time mixing and working with different stages of dough, the class will finish with the opportunity to enjoy the delicious results of our work. Participants will gather around the table to share freshly baked pita and homemade dips and spreads from the Root kitchen while Jackie shares tips and techniques for working with freshly milled whole grains, which varieties they use, why some are healthier than others, and how they perform in baked goods. Participants will leave with some dough to bake at home, along with the recipe to try it.
$175 per person, includes instruction, all materials, and a light dinner. No previous experience is required. This class is suitable for ages 15 and up. Class size is limited to sixteen participants. For more information, email Faith Emerson.
Jackie and Andy King met at the New England Culinary Institute, after which they moved to Portland, ME to pursue their careers in baking. After training at the Standard Baking Co., they decided to move to the North Shore of Massachusetts to try their hand at the bakery business. A&J King Artisan Bakers opened in June 2006.
