Jo Sylvester - Johnson and Wales Graduate


Jo graduated from Root in 2019 and knew he wanted to pursue additional formal culinary training with the goal of becoming a professional chef.

Jo loved being in the kitchen at Root, and his experience there gave him the confidence to apply to Culinary School. As a student at Johnson and Wales, he shared that Root's ServSafe food safety training really prepared him for the challenge of earning his ServSafe Manager certificate (he earned an A- in the class, too!)

Despite the challenges presented by the pandemic, Jo completed his coursework and graduated from Johnson and Wales in May of 2023 and is working toward starting his own small food business. We were thrilled to have Jo join us in November of 2023 for Root’s Celebrity Chef Event, where he shared samples of the vegan and vegetarian empanadas he is testing as part of his business development.
